Blackandgold Design (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. introduces Plant Selected, a revolutionary packaging design inspired by Scandinavian minimalism, aiming to distinguish itself in the traditional plant-based beverage market. The packaging reflects the rising health consciousness and clean label trend, conveying the brand promise of high protein and no additives through a large area of white space.
Plant Selected sets itself apart from competitors by positioning as a vegan nutrition provider, enhancing its perceived value and differentiation in the highly homogeneous Chinese plant-based beverage market. The minimalism design allows the packaging to stand out on shelves, competing with the conventional and busy design codes of its counterparts. Additionally, the introduction of the concept of Plant Milk to the Chinese market positions Plant Selected to compete with the milk category.
The packaging is realized using PET bottles covered with matte film, with dimensions of 60mm (W) x 60mm (D) x 177mm (H). The design team, led by Creative Director Yang LI, Managing Director Lei ZHANG, and Strategic Planner Xincheng ZHUANG, worked on the project from September 2019 to January 2020, conducting extensive research to understand consumer insights and market trends.
Overcoming the challenge of repositioning Plant Selected as a vegan nutrition provider, the design team conducted in-depth research to understand consumer preferences and healthy lifestyle trends. By leveraging insights from client research and desk research, they narrowed down creative directions and references to create a packaging design that effectively communicates the product's core benefits and catches consumers' attention on the shelf.
