Ankara-based designer Yilmaz Dogan has been honored with the Iron A' Furniture Design Award 2025 for "Wings," a luxury sideboard that masterfully blends Gothic and Art Deco influences with angelic wing motifs, realized through expert craftsmanship and innovative technology.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Wings" sideboard by Yilmaz Dogan has captured the Iron A' Furniture Design Award 2025, standing out for its unique blend of Gothic and Art Deco styles. Designed and produced in Ankara, Türkiye, the piece draws inspiration from the spiritual symbolism of angelic wings-representing humanity's longing for freedom and elevation-while embracing the elegance and progressiveness of Art Deco. The result is a sideboard that not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also as an artistic statement, embodying both beauty and meaning.
Meticulously crafted, "Wings" features copper-coated, hand-carved wing details seamlessly integrated into a dark-toned wooden body. The cabinet's surfaces are shaped using high-precision CNC cutting, complemented by traditional handcrafting techniques. The floating effect is achieved through tapered, handcrafted copper legs, while a matte lacquer finish and velvet-textured interior elevate the sense of luxury. The sideboard's specially designed door mechanism allows for an elegant, touch-activated opening, with concealed hinges ensuring a flawless, uninterrupted surface.
The creation of "Wings" involved extensive research into the use of wing forms in historical and contemporary architecture, as well as the optimization of materials and light interplay to create a strong visual identity. Overcoming technical challenges such as three-dimensional modeling of the wing surfaces and developing an invisible hinge system, Dogan's team achieved a harmonious balance between modern technology and artisanal craftsmanship. Measuring 201 cm wide, 62 cm high, and 50 cm deep, "Wings" is designed for luxury interiors, offering both aesthetic distinction and practical storage solutions.
