From Past To Future: An Eclectic Suadiye Residence Blending Memory, Art, and Modern Design

Sakura Architecture's latest project, "From Past To Future," has been awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. Located in Suadiye, Istanbul, this 155-square-meter residence is a testament to the firm's philosophy of designing spaces imbued with personal stories. Completed in July 2024, the project transforms a standard apartment into a vibrant, eclectic home that honors the homeowners' memories and collections while introducing modern elegance and functionality.

The design process centered on integrating meaningful heirlooms and art-such as a 1923 German piano, a 1914 Russian samovar, and a 1948 Diyarbakır chest-alongside contemporary furnishings and new structural materials. Sakura Architecture meticulously reconfigured the original four-room layout, converting it into a spacious 3.5-room plan with an added vestiary and laundry area, and an enclosed balcony overlooking landscaped gardens. The result is a harmonious blend of antique and modern elements, where every detail, from imported buffets to symbolic artworks, contributes to a cohesive narrative.

Material choices reflect both timelessness and comfort: marble in corridors and wet areas, warm wooden parquet in living spaces, and a mix of natural wood veneer and lacquered finishes for furniture. Dynamic touches such as wallpaper, crystal chandeliers, and vibrant fabrics enliven the interiors, while functional solutions ensure every square meter is optimized for elegant living. The residence's design not only celebrates the homeowners' past but also provides a refined, inviting environment for the future, exemplifying Sakura Architecture's commitment to artistry, originality, and quality of life.
