Recruit Umeda, designed by GOOD PLACE and located in a prominent 41-story skyscraper in Osaka, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award 2025. The project transforms four office floors and two break rooms into a vibrant, interconnected workspace that reflects the city's rich merchant history, food culture, and humor. Drawing inspiration from Osaka's unique local character, the design team implemented a diverse color palette, incorporated regional dialects, and created zones that promote spontaneous communication and cross-floor connections.
Central to the project is the "CO-EN (33)" refresh space on the 33rd floor, which embodies the concept of "zoning according to the depth of communication." This area features a semi-circular counter and communication board, encouraging business development and interaction among employees. The office layout strategically balances open work areas, call centers, and quiet zones, using meeting spaces and low partitions to optimize sound environments and employee satisfaction. The design also emphasizes environmental responsibility by repurposing over 600 pieces of furniture from other sites, maintaining a cohesive aesthetic through thoughtful modifications.
The project's development was informed by extensive employee research, revealing a need for greater community and collaboration within the large, versatile office. GOOD PLACE addressed these challenges by creating dedicated spaces for casual interaction, integrating Osaka's cultural essence, and ensuring visual flow throughout the workspace. The result is an office that not only enhances productivity and well-being but also celebrates the local identity, setting a new benchmark for workplace design in Japan.
