Shanghai Cloud: Revitalizing Industrial Heritage into a Smart City Innovation Hub in North Shanghai

FTA Group has achieved a significant milestone with Shanghai Cloud, a digital intelligence center that reimagines the former Pengpu Machine Factory into a state-of-the-art complex for technology and innovation. Completed in June 2024, the project stands in North Shanghai Hi-Tech Park and exemplifies the city's shift from industrial roots to a future-driven smart city. The design, inspired by the concept of the "Superimposed Cube," breaks down traditional architectural forms to create a harmonious network of flexible, interconnected spaces that foster creativity and collaboration.

Spanning 270,000 square meters, Shanghai Cloud features three towers-one reaching 130 meters-linked by a striking aerial corridor, and integrates restored industrial workshops with new high-rise offices and laboratories. The adaptive reuse of the old factory preserves its red brick façade and original structure, while modern interventions such as glass roofs and curtain walls breathe new life into the historic site. The project's layout, with high-rises along the site boundary and extensive terraces, sky gardens, and outdoor courtyards, creates a dynamic, open environment that supports both community interaction and technological advancement.

Designed to meet the diverse needs of startups and established enterprises alike, Shanghai Cloud offers flexible office spaces, high-standard laboratories, and multi-functional areas for conferences, exhibitions, and brand promotion. The project's focus on intelligent empowerment and integration of big data enables cross-industry collaboration, positioning it as a "high-density, high-level, and efficient" innovation ecosystem. Overcoming challenges of limited developable land and complex heritage restoration, FTA Group's approach has been recognized by leading cultural and academic institutions, cementing Shanghai Cloud's role as a model for urban renewal and smart city development in China.
