Nanbu Eye Gymnasium: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Architecture

ZHOYU introduces Nanbu Eye, a gymnasium designed as a landscape building on the banks of the Jialing River, symbolizing the fusion of nature, technology, and poetry. The project commenced in November 2020 in Chengdu and was completed in August 2022, showcasing a harmonious integration of sports and the natural environment.

Located by the Jialing River, Nanbu Eye achieves harmony, openness, and interaction with nature, embodying the core concepts of earthscape, integration, and openness. The gymnasium covers 22,000 square meters, featuring a 32-meter height and two main floors, with an indoor basketball arena and a civic sports center.

The gymnasium's unique "Jewel" structural system, "Silk" surface, and colorful aluminum plates contribute to its distinctive aesthetic and functional appeal. The design's realization technology, including the use of the "Jewel" structural system and "Silk" surface, reflects the essence of the Silk Road and the city of Nanchong, known as the silk capital of western China.

The project overcame significant challenges in integrating the strong function and structure of the sports building with nature, achieving maximum openness, and realizing the unique structural system supporting the huge architectural dome and surface.

ZHOYU's Nanbu Eye Gymnasium has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in 2024, underscoring its exceptional and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing and advances the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
