FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Goodbikes: A Community-Driven Bicycle Donation Campaign Empowering Mobility and Sustainability in Namibia

Squared, an independent creative studio based in Sofia, Bulgaria, has been honored with the Iron A' Social Design Award 2025 for its Goodbikes initiative-a pioneering campaign that turns tourism into a force for social good in Namibia. Launched in June 2024 in Swakopmund, Goodbikes invites visitors to purchase bicycles at special rates, use them during their stay, and donate them before departing. The donated bikes are then repaired and redistributed to locals, providing essential transportation for work, education, and access to services.

The campaign stands out for its holistic approach to community engagement and sustainability. By partnering with local businesses and the municipality, Goodbikes ensures that each donated bicycle is refurbished by local repair shops, supporting the local economy and reducing environmental impact. The initiative's branding features bold, minimal visuals, and its communication system includes eco-friendly print materials, digital campaigns, and creative touchpoints such as branded coasters in cafés and custom metal bike plates for identification.

Developed through extensive research and collaboration, Goodbikes addresses real mobility challenges in Swakopmund. The project's seamless process makes participation easy for tourists while delivering lasting benefits to the community. By integrating behavioral design and leveraging both digital and physical assets, the campaign has fostered a culture of shared responsibility and proven that small actions can drive meaningful change. The Iron A' Design Award recognizes Goodbikes as a practical, innovative solution that exemplifies industry best practices and contributes to a better world.
