Stora Enso's Jinglun Cui Unveils Innovative Packaging Design Inspired by Sailor Culture

Stora Enso's Jinglun Cui, along with a talented design team, has unveiled the Gregory Donut packaging, drawing inspiration from the sailor culture. The design embodies a healthy and poetic approach, incorporating navy blue and spray white elements against wheat brown, reflecting a sailor's experience. The packaging's rotational forming motion mimics a rudder, symbolizing a journey towards a distant horizon.
What sets Gregory Donut apart is its meticulous attention to detail and commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle. The packaging features low-sugar, whole wheat bread-based donuts with handmade elaboration, offering a convenient way to enjoy exquisite and healthy food. Additionally, the design echoes the brand's ethos through graphic and structural elements, utilizing 100% paper-based packaging materials.
All visible paper used in the packaging is food contact grade, with the sleeve made from FBB paper coated with water-based high abrasion matt varnish for ink protection. The packaging is printed with food-grade soy ink and features a patented 90-degree rotational structure design, enabling rapid packing and flat delivery format.
The Gregory Donut packaging is well-suited for retail take-away purposes, with two different sleeve handle sizes available to accommodate 6 or 12 pieces of donuts. The entire manufacturing process is fully automated, allowing for flat transportation to bakeries and rapid, convenient packing.
The project commenced in January 2021 and was launched in March 2021 in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China. The design draws inspiration from Captain Hanson Gregory's innovative approach to donut creation in 1947, reflecting the brand's dedication to detail, healthy living, and sailor culture.
Jinglun Cui's design philosophy for Gregory Donut revolves around environmental protection and minimalism. The packaging utilizes food-grade and degradable materials, emphasizing environmental sustainability. The navy blue color scheme and stick figure layout convey the poetic essence of sailor culture, while the unique structure design simulates the motion of a helm and sail, enhancing packing efficiency.
