Ece Gülagac's Horizon Finance Hub, located in the Turkish Airlines Cargo Building at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for seamlessly integrating Turkish-Islamic cultural heritage with cutting-edge workplace innovation in a 5,500-square-meter open office designed for 450 employees, completed in July 2024.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Horizon Finance Hub, designed by Ece Gülagac and the team at Öge Mimarlık, redefines the modern workplace by merging deep-rooted Turkish-Islamic architectural influences with contemporary office needs. Situated within the Turkish Airlines Accounting and Financial Control Offices at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, this 5,500-square-meter workspace was conceived to serve 450 personnel, blending tradition with innovation to foster collaboration, efficiency, and a strong sense of corporate identity.
Drawing inspiration from regions such as Khorasan, Hejaz, the Balkans, and Andalusia, the design incorporates local motifs, patterns, and colors that reflect the rich heritage of Turkish-Islamic civilizations. These elements are seamlessly integrated into the office environment through CNC-milled panels, custom wall graphics, and digitally printed glass partitions. The result is a visually engaging space that not only celebrates cultural legacy but also strengthens employee belonging and team spirit.
The project's realization was guided by a data-driven approach, incorporating user research, spatial analysis, and corporate branding. Flexible meeting areas, shared workstations, and informal gathering zones support a variety of work styles, while adaptive lighting, high-performance acoustic panels, and ergonomic furniture enhance comfort and productivity. Sustainability was prioritized through energy-efficient HVAC systems, recycled materials, and biophilic design, alongside smart workplace solutions like IoT-enabled meeting rooms and sensor-driven lighting. Overcoming challenges such as low ceiling heights and shared departmental space, the team utilized modular construction and strategic spatial organization to maximize openness and functionality, setting a new benchmark for culturally integrated, future-ready office environments.
