FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Biovessel: Nature-Inspired Indoor Ecosystem Composter Revolutionizes Urban Food Waste Management

Biovessel, designed by Chen-Hsiang Chao, is redefining how urban households manage food waste by transforming it into valuable nutrients through a self-sustaining indoor ecosystem. Developed in Taipei and recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025, Biovessel leverages the natural processes of earthworms, soil microorganisms, and water to decompose organic waste efficiently and without odor. This innovative solution addresses the global issue of food waste, which, according to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, accounts for one-third of all food produced annually and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

Unlike conventional composters or machines, Biovessel's form and function are dictated by over 20 months of biological research and experimentation. Its unique design, shaped by parametric algorithms and ergonomic data, ensures optimal conditions for decomposition while seamlessly fitting into urban homes. The vessel's top caps feature ventilation holes inspired by sunflower seed spirals, utilizing the golden ratio for ideal air permeability, and its cork wood lid openings are precisely positioned for maximum efficiency based on aerodynamic analysis.

Operating Biovessel is straightforward: users introduce a sawdust-soil mix and composting worms, maintain moisture and pH levels, and add food scraps through a dedicated inlet. The system's design ensures high-efficiency, odorless decomposition, and users can harvest nutrient-rich fertilizer directly from the vessel to nourish plants. Manufactured using advanced blow molding technology, Biovessel overcomes significant production challenges to deliver a sustainable, user-friendly product that brings the benefits of nature into everyday urban life.

Biovessel's recognition with the Bronze A' Design Award highlights its contribution to improving quality of life and advancing sustainable practices in product design. By turning food waste into a resource and fostering a closer relationship between people and nature, Biovessel sets a new standard for eco-friendly innovation in modern living environments.
