"Eclipse" Residence: A Solar-Inspired Renovation Blending Functionality, Light, and Modern Warmth in Taoyuan City

AN.J Studio's "Eclipse" project transforms a dated two-story residence into a contemporary haven, drawing inspiration from the dramatic interplay of light and shadow during a total solar eclipse. The design centers around dark wood veneer and linear lighting, evoking the ethereal glow of an eclipse and creating an atmosphere of sophistication, warmth, and tranquility. The project's core concept-light emerging from darkness-guides both the aesthetic and functional reconfiguration of the space.

A standout feature is the staircase, which transitions from dark wood to lighter materials, symbolizing the journey from night to dawn. This visual narrative culminates at a window that bathes the stairwell in natural light. The innovative 360-degree rotating TV wall serves as a dynamic connector between the kitchen, dining, and living areas, while the kitchen island's integration with the dining table enhances both spatial flow and daily interaction. The original kitchen was relocated and expanded, providing ample storage and a more open, social environment for the family.

The renovation posed significant challenges, including reconfiguring the staircase, replacing outdated pipelines, and maximizing functionality within a compact 95.8-square-meter footprint. Careful material selection-such as rock, fluorinated glass, and eco-friendly paints-ensured both durability and visual harmony. The result is a home that seamlessly blends modern design, sustainability, and comfort, offering residents a serene retreat that celebrates both the beauty of natural phenomena and the joys of connected living.
