FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Serene Moon" residence, designed by Shiu & Space Interior Design Co., Ltd., stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics and Scandinavian minimalism. Completed in April 2023 in Taiwan, the project was conceived for a homeowner seeking a peaceful, understated environment that prioritizes both functionality and a sense of belonging. The design team, led by Ching-Pei Chen, meticulously curated a palette of natural stone, reclaimed railway wood, and soft Nordic tones, resulting in a warm Japandi home that celebrates authenticity and tranquility.
A defining feature of Serene Moon is its versatile study, enclosed with Moru glass and a white iron frame to provide transparency and adaptability. This space effortlessly transitions from a tranquil workspace to a guest room, reflecting the residence's commitment to flexibility and comfort. The open-plan layout ensures seamless interaction among family members, with the study, living, and dining areas all visible upon entry. Hidden doors and integrated storage solutions preserve visual cohesion while maintaining privacy, exemplifying the project's thoughtful approach to both aesthetics and practicality.
The realization of the design involved a careful blend of special paints, glass, wood, laminate flooring, and ironwork. The interplay of materials and the use of natural light evoke the beauty of morning mist over mountains, while hand-painted gradient walls and repurposed railway wood add layers of narrative and texture. Overcoming challenges such as integrating ceiling beams and perfecting stone-pattern coatings, the designers achieved a serene ambiance that is both visually striking and deeply comforting. The project's recognition with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 underscores its innovative approach, technical excellence, and contribution to enhancing quality of life through design.
