Sun Yi Office: A Maritime-Inspired Workspace Redefining Insurance Reception Centers with Light and Flow

Sun Yi Office, designed by Chen Hsuan Wei and Lu Yixin, reimagines the insurance reception center by infusing it with the spirit of the ocean and the site's maritime heritage. Completed in March 2024, this project addresses the challenges of insufficient natural light and inefficient workspace layouts by integrating elements reminiscent of the sea, such as wave-like features, gentle curves, and a palette inspired by sand and driftwood. The design's innovative use of glass bricks at the entrance filters daylight, ensuring the space remains bright and welcoming while maintaining privacy for clients and staff.

The workspace's modular curved desks emulate the movement of waves, fostering an organic workflow and encouraging collaboration among team members. The ceiling and floor incorporate fluid shapes that echo the rhythmic ebb and flow of tides, creating a tranquil atmosphere conducive to focus and productivity. Materials such as glass bricks, large tiles, wood veneer, titanium-coated metal, and striped glass are carefully selected to enhance both the functional and aesthetic qualities of the office, while special coatings and indirect lighting further evoke the immersive ambiance of the ocean.

One of the project's key achievements is its successful transition from traditional individual workstations to a shared long table, promoting teamwork without sacrificing personal space. The design also pays homage to coral reefs and underwater ecosystems through clusters of organic shapes and vibrant colors, reinforcing the connection between the workspace and its maritime inspiration. By balancing openness, privacy, and environmental respect, Sun Yi Office sets a new standard for insurance reception centers, blending functionality with artistic expression and earning recognition for its contribution to quality of life improvements.
