FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Batumi Chess Palace: A Landmark Cultural Center Celebrating Chess and Architectural Innovation

The Batumi Chess Palace, designed by Irakli Emiridze of Alpha Architecture, has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design for 2025. This prestigious accolade celebrates the project's creative ingenuity and its role in enhancing quality of life through art, science, and technology. Located in Batumi, Georgia, the Chess Palace is envisioned as a premier destination for chess enthusiasts and a beacon for cultural tourism, with its grand opening scheduled for 2027.

Drawing direct inspiration from the game of chess, the building's design features a distinctive black and white facade that echoes the chessboard's iconic grid. The structure's form is conceived as an unfolded chessboard, with perforated solar shades on all four facades creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. A sculptural chess piece installation at the entrance serves as a symbolic gateway, reinforcing the building's connection to the game and its cultural significance.

The Chess Palace is more than an architectural statement; it is a multifunctional hub designed to foster learning, competition, and community engagement. The facility includes a tournament hall, study rooms, a chess library, exhibition and conference spaces, hotel accommodations, accessible rooms, a gym, and amenities such as a sports shop and food facilities. The design incorporates sustainable technologies, including a ventilated facade with HPL panels, a winter garden with glass roofing, and energy-efficient materials. By harmoniously integrating with its environment and reflecting the spirit of chess, the Batumi Chess Palace is set to become a landmark for both Georgia and the international chess community.
