"Maize," designed by New Elegant Co., Ltd, has achieved the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Jewelry Design category for 2025. This exceptional hair jewelry piece draws inspiration from the Maya "Maize God Emerging from a Flower," a powerful symbol of life, rebirth, and abundance in ancient Mesoamerican culture. By transforming this sacred imagery into a wearable form, the design bridges the spiritual connection between humanity and nature, while honoring the rich cultural heritage of Guatemala through its use of rare, deep green Guatemala jade.

The centerpiece of "Maize" is an intricately carved Maize God figure, surrounded by semi-translucent jade petals that symbolize renewal and growth. Accented with 18K gold plating, the piece is both a functional hair ornament and a sculptural work of art. The interplay of polished jade and radiant gold creates a dynamic visual and tactile experience, with light reflecting off the petals and casting soft highlights on the central figure. This thoughtful combination of materials and motifs elevates the jewelry beyond adornment, making it a statement of cultural storytelling and personal expression.

The creation of "Maize" involved a meticulous process that combined advanced 3D modeling and modern CNC machining to achieve precise jade carving. Artisans applied 18K gold plating to reinforce and accentuate the design, ensuring both strength and elegance. The project, which began in November 2023 and concluded in October 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City, overcame significant technical challenges-particularly in carving the delicate jade petals-to achieve a harmonious balance between tradition and innovation. The result is a piece that not only celebrates Maya mythology but also showcases the highest standards of contemporary craftsmanship.
