Amytis Cup by Mocco: Award-Winning Porcelain Design Inspired by Ancient Gardens and Modern Craft

Mocco, the Antalya-based ceramic brand founded by designer Zeynep Zümre, has received the prestigious Iron A' Design Award 2025 in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware category for its Amytis cup. Drawing inspiration from the mythic Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Amytis reimagines the tactile pleasure of holding a grape cluster, echoing the story of Queen Amytis and her longing for the lush landscapes of her homeland. The design not only pays homage to ancient beauty but also delivers a modern, ergonomic experience for users.

The Amytis cup stands out with its sculptural form, which evokes the look and feel of a grape cluster, offering both visual delight and a comfortable grip. Crafted from Limoges porcelain, each cup is handmade using a meticulous process that includes 3D modeling, plaster molding, and dual high-temperature firings to achieve its glossy, durable finish. The set includes a 200 ml cup and a matching serving plate, both suitable for hot and cold beverages and dishwasher safe, ensuring practicality alongside aesthetic appeal.

Designed to enhance everyday rituals, Amytis adapts seamlessly to various uses, from coffee and wine to serving small snacks, reflecting Mocco's philosophy of infusing meaning and narrative into functional objects. The award recognizes Amytis not only for its technical excellence and innovative production methods but also for its ability to transform a simple cup into an evocative, story-rich experience. The design's journey, from initial inspiration in 2017 to its perfected form in 2019, highlights the dedication and creative problem-solving that define Zeynep Zümre's approach to contemporary ceramics.
