Feathers of Love and Peace: A Picasso-Inspired Residence Promoting Tranquility and Community

Jy Architecture's latest project, "Feathers of Love and Peace," reimagines congregate housing by infusing it with the spirit of Picasso's artistry and the universal ideals of love and peace. Located in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and completed in October 2024, the residence is anchored in the symbolism of Picasso's "The Dove," a representation of hope and tranquility. The design employs Cubist principles, featuring abstract geometric forms, deconstructed elements, and a vibrant color palette to create a dynamic and inviting atmosphere for all residents.

Upon entering the building, visitors are greeted by a striking main staircase inspired by Cubist art, which serves as a visual centerpiece. This staircase, crafted using innovative techniques like hollowing, cutting, stacking, and reorganizing, forms a sculptural representation of a dove in flight. The streamlined design continues throughout the property, with communal spaces such as the reception area, lounge, and children's playroom reflecting the warmth and charm of Picasso's Rose Period. Each area is thoughtfully planned to foster a sense of calm, community, and artistic engagement.

The residence also prioritizes health, sustainability, and connection to nature. The gym features expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of lush landscapes, allowing residents to enjoy natural beauty while exercising. Environmentally friendly materials, including renewable wood panels, natural stone, and low-carbon cement, are used throughout the project to minimize environmental impact and ensure longevity. This thoughtful integration of art, nature, and sustainable design has earned "Feathers of Love and Peace" the Iron A' Design Award in 2025, recognizing its innovative approach to creating meaningful, livable spaces.
