FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Renovation of Seepromenade 11: Preserving Heritage and Embracing Sustainability in Ueberlingen's Old Town

The recently completed transformation of the historic building at Seepromenade 11 in Ueberlingen, led by Dipl. Ing. (FH) Christian Gaus, stands as a testament to thoughtful preservation and innovative design. Originally constructed in the 17th century and owned by the Oexle family since 1920, the property has served as a restaurant since 1957. The latest renovation, spanning from 2022 to 2024, carefully balances the building's storied past with a forward-thinking approach to sustainability and interior design.

Central to the redesign is the building's unique lakeside location. The design draws inspiration from the adjacent water, with hues of blue and natural materials echoing the lake's ever-changing tones. Floor-to-ceiling windows were installed to maximize natural light and offer uninterrupted views, creating a seamless transition between the interior spaces and the tranquil waterfront. In the seminar rooms and vacation apartments above, the sensation of floating above the water further enhances the visual and emotional connection to the serene surroundings.

A key feature of the project is its commitment to upcycling and adaptive reuse. Existing structural elements, including old wooden beams and historic insignia, were meticulously restored and integrated into the new design. Furniture from previous eras found new purpose, and the building's authentic charm was preserved while modern amenities were introduced. The renovation also prioritized sustainability, adhering to the principles of the German Sustainable Building Council's "Phase Nachhaltigkeit." The result is a vibrant, functional space that honors its heritage while meeting contemporary needs for gastronomy, seminars, and holiday accommodations.

The project's realization involved collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including structural engineers, building physicists, and local trades, ensuring both technical excellence and respect for the building's historical significance. The completed renovation not only revitalizes a cherished landmark but also sets a benchmark for sustainable, context-sensitive design in historic urban environments.
