Drean Design's Get Space project, led by Xinxing Wu, has transformed Huangpu Science City in Guangzhou with a cutting-edge lighting concept inspired by the Pearl River's maritime legacy, officially opening in January 2024 and earning the Golden A' Design Award for its innovative, energy-efficient approach to urban commercial spaces.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Get Space, the flagship commercial street in Huangpu Science City, Guangzhou, represents a new standard in urban development by seamlessly integrating advanced architectural lighting with cultural symbolism. Designed by Xinxing Wu and the Drean Design team, the project draws inspiration from the Pearl River's rippling waters and the region's maritime heritage. The lighting concept features dynamic gradients and transitions that evoke movement and connection, while the minimalist facade of stacked boxes and terraced platforms creates a rhythmic, modern urban aesthetic.
The lighting system employs state-of-the-art LED luminaires, narrow-beam spotlights, and dynamic controls, allowing for tailored illumination across retail, office, and public spaces. Motion sensors and dimming controls reduce energy consumption by up to 30% during off-peak hours, aligning with Drean Design's commitment to sustainability. Anti-glare shields and targeted lighting angles minimize light pollution, protecting nearby residential areas and preserving the nighttime sky. This thoughtful approach ensures that Get Space not only meets but exceeds local environmental regulations, setting a benchmark for responsible urban lighting.
Spanning 154,800 square meters and directly connected to the Metro Station, Get Space offers premium retail, smart offices, sky pavilion suites, and multifunctional spaces. Since its launch, the complex has attracted over 130,000 visitors in just three days, earning widespread acclaim for its immersive, interactive environment that fosters creativity, belonging, and cultural appreciation. Despite a budget under 20 million RMB, Get Space demonstrates how cost-efficient design can deliver transformative results, earning the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2025 and establishing itself as a model for vibrant, inclusive urban communities.
