"Frozen" Pendant Lamp Collection Melds Nature, Technology, and Artistry in Award-Winning Design

Alexey Danilin's "Frozen" pendant lamp collection captures the essence of northern nature, combining impressions of snow-covered forests with the traditions of glassmaking and the precision of 3D printing. Developed from January 2023 to January 2024 in Moscow, the collection was first exhibited at Interlight in September 2024. Each lamp features a glass element derived from a 3D-scanned fragment of a tree, meticulously refined to enhance the wood's natural pattern and tactile appeal. The result is a luminous object that refracts light in captivating ways, evoking the tranquility and wonder of winter landscapes.

The collection stands out for its innovative use of materials and technology. Lamps are crafted from cast glass in hues reminiscent of winter-transparent, green-blue, and matte white-paired with brass and metal reinforcements. The G4 light source is subtly concealed by a matte glass opening, ensuring a soft, diffused glow that does not distract from the lamp's sculptural form. The thoughtful engineering extends to the mounting system, which accommodates various interior heights and configurations, and the collection offers three models with different lamp counts and color options to suit diverse spaces.

Danilin's design process was deeply rooted in research and experimentation. By interviewing people about their associations with northern nature and studying regional flora, he identified the visual and tactile qualities that would resonate most. The challenge of translating organic wood textures into glass required both digital and manual refinement, as well as careful consideration of weight and mounting solutions. The resulting lamps not only serve as functional lighting but also as artful statements that bring the spirit of the forest indoors, adaptable to a range of contemporary and classic interiors.

The "Frozen" collection's recognition with the Silver A' Design Award underscores its technical excellence, artistic innovation, and emotional resonance. It exemplifies how modern design can bridge nature and technology, offering users a unique sensory experience while honoring traditional craftsmanship.
