Yi Yuen Chang's "Path of Light" studio in Hsinchu, Taiwan, has been honored with the Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025, recognizing its gallery-inspired workspace that masterfully integrates natural light, sustainable materials, and adaptive reuse to create a dynamic, collaborative environment that evolves throughout the day.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Path of Light" studio, designed by Yi Yuen Chang and completed in April 2024 in Hsinchu, Taiwan, has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award for its innovative approach to workspace design. Drawing inspiration from the movement of light through space, the project reimagines the traditional office as a fluid, gallery-like environment where daylight is harnessed to define boundaries, guide transitions, and foster both collaboration and focus. The studio officially opened its doors in July 2024, offering a new paradigm for creative workspaces.
Central to the design are staggered three-quarter height walls that modulate daylight, creating a dynamic interplay of illumination and shadow that evolves with the sun's trajectory. This architectural intervention deepens spatial perception, accentuates material contrasts, and cultivates an atmosphere that is both open and intimate. The use of repurposed materials, low-VOC finishes, and energy-efficient lighting underscores the project's commitment to sustainability, while textured surfaces and reflective elements enhance the sensory experience and reduce the need for artificial lighting.
The two-story studio features a thoughtfully zoned ground floor with reception, open meeting spaces, and a main office area, while the upper level houses a VIP salon, multifunctional classroom, and private meeting rooms with glass partitions for visual transparency and privacy. The design process incorporated research into spatial psychology, feng shui, and user feedback to optimize workflow, comfort, and energy flow. Overcoming challenges such as material reuse and maximizing natural light, the project delivers a workspace that is both artful and highly functional, setting a benchmark for future interior environments.
