Potamya, designed by Ebru Sile Goksel and her creative team, has captured the Bronze A' Design Award for its groundbreaking approach to sustainable food packaging. Drawing inspiration from the origins of agriculture in ancient Mesopotamia, the design incorporates geometric motifs and symbols from the era, reimagined with a contemporary, minimalistic aesthetic. The packaging's deep navy logo and stylized illustrations pay homage to the region's rich history while communicating the product's organic, plant-based identity.
What sets Potamya apart is its commitment to both sustainability and user experience. The packaging is made from eco-friendly, recyclable materials and features a unique peel-off lid that transforms into a reusable measuring cup, directly addressing food waste and portion control. This innovative system was developed through extensive prototyping and collaboration with manufacturers, ensuring both durability and ease of use. The transparent window highlights the natural color of the legume pasta, while bold labeling and warm illustrations on the back educate consumers about the product's nutritional benefits and cooking process.
The design process, spanning three months, was driven by research into global food waste and the need for clean, responsible farming. Potamya's packaging not only encourages healthier eating habits but also promotes sustainable living by making portioning effortless and reducing single-use waste. The project overcame significant challenges, including shifting consumer perceptions of legume pasta and integrating advanced features within manufacturing constraints. As a result, Potamya has quickly gained attention among health-conscious and eco-minded consumers, setting a new benchmark for sustainable packaging in the food industry.
