MADA s.p.a.m. LLC has completed the Golden Key Venue, a transformative industrial and office building at 1065 Chuanqiao Road, Shanghai, in 2024. The project revitalizes a former warehouse into a dynamic innovation hub, fostering a synergistic biopharmaceutical ecosystem and earning the Platinum A' Design Award for its architectural excellence and contribution to urban regeneration.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Golden Key Venue, designed by MADA s.p.a.m. LLC and led by architect Ma Qingyun, reimagines a neglected warehouse into a vibrant center for industry and creativity in Shanghai's Jinqiao Sub-center. Completed in 2024, the project is the result of collaboration between Shanghai Pharma Holdings and Jinqiao Group, two major state-owned enterprises. The venue now serves as a magnet for biopharmaceutical companies, including Magsense Health, Huashi Pharmacy, and Huantong Technology, positioning the district as a leading hub for innovation and urban renewal.
Architecturally, the Golden Key Venue stands out for its bold integration of three low-rise blocks connected to a high-rise zone, unified by two striking slanted columns clad in mirror-finish stainless steel. The structure features a dramatic 26-meter cantilever and a facade composed of 28,000 red terracotta tiles, evoking a minimalist, academic-inspired aesthetic. Green spaces, courtyards, terraces, and rooftop gardens are woven throughout the site, creating a harmonious blend of industry, community, and nature while encouraging collaboration and creativity among its occupants.
The transformation of the former Huashi Storage Warehouse into the Golden Key Venue addresses both technical and social challenges. The design required innovative engineering to achieve the suspended effect of the cantilever while maintaining structural integrity and visual elegance. Spanning 36,000 square meters, with five floors above ground and additional underground space, the venue not only maximizes land use but also sets a new standard for urban regeneration in Shanghai. Its recognition with the Platinum A' Design Award underscores its impact as a model for future city-building, advancing the boundaries of architecture and community development.
