Zouii Design's latest project, The Ori, a 112.3-square-meter residence in Tainan City, Taiwan, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for its innovative blend of European vintage charm, Japanese tranquility, and Scandinavian simplicity, creating a sanctuary where light, space, and personal memories converge in a dynamic, adaptable home environment.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Ori, designed by Zouii Design and completed in January 2024 in Tainan City, Taiwan, has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. This residence stands out for its thoughtful interplay of light, materials, and spatial flow, inspired by the homeowner's affinity for European vintage furniture and a desire for a tranquil, ever-evolving living space. Named after the Hebrew word for "light," The Ori is a testament to the transformative power of illumination and design in shaping daily life.
Rejecting rigid stylistic boundaries, The Ori merges Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian openness, resulting in a home that balances historical depth and contemporary sensibilities. Key features include a Japanese pendant light at the entrance, floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Yanshuei River, and a curved ceiling that guides natural light into the dining area. The layout was reimagined to enhance flexibility, with the TV and sofa swapped and the dining table repositioned as the social hub. Two independent storage rooms replace fixed cabinetry, ensuring both ample storage and spatial fluidity.
Material choices emphasize natural textures and subtle contrasts, with mineral-painted walls, serpentine-patterned ceramic tiles, and wood accents creating a refined yet warm atmosphere. The design's adaptability is evident in the homeowner's evolving use of space, as furniture arrangements shift in response to light and daily needs. A follow-up visit revealed the storage solutions exceeded expectations, allowing for clutter-free living and enhanced natural illumination. Overcoming technical challenges, such as concealing complex kitchen piping with a curved ceiling, the project achieves seamless circulation and comfort, embodying Zouii Design's philosophy of crafting spaces that foster harmony, flexibility, and personal expression.
