"Time Flows" Residence: A Harmonious Blend of Curved Design, Natural Materials, and Wabi-Sabi Philosophy

Sheng design's latest project, "Time Flows," has received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2025, recognizing its outstanding approach to residential design. Located in Taiwan, this 109-square-meter home embodies the wabi-sabi philosophy, celebrating imperfection, transience, and the beauty of natural materials. The project's signature feature-a curved ceiling inspired by planetary orbits-creates a striking visual narrative, while the interplay of light, shadow, and earthy tones fosters a tranquil, inviting atmosphere.

The residence stands out for its innovative use of materials and spatial configuration. Sheng design reimagined the original two-bedroom layout, transforming one room into a suite and converting the guest bathroom into a private en-suite for enhanced privacy. The integration of cabinetry into the walls minimizes visual segmentation, promoting a seamless flow between spaces. Thoughtful details, such as the combination of shou sugi ban and leather on the TV wall and entryway bench, add depth and sophistication, while the open shelving at the entrance provides both function and aesthetic unity.

Realized through meticulous craftsmanship, the home features layered wood, leather, and special paints, with each curve and surface refined for both visual and tactile appeal. The curved ceiling, achieved through specialized construction techniques, appears to float above the living area, symbolizing the passage of time and hope. Homeowner feedback highlights the design's ability to support daily life with comfort and ease, from the expansive living room bookshelf to the enveloping, softly lit bedroom.
