Cathay Pacific, in collaboration with designer Deniz Kurtcepe and an international team, has launched its innovative in-flight entertainment experience across its Airbus and Boeing fleets, setting a new benchmark for user-centric digital travel. First deployed in August 2023, the system combines accessibility, personalization, and a vast content library to enhance passenger journeys worldwide.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cathay Pacific's new in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, designed by Deniz Kurtcepe and a global team, represents a significant leap forward in airline passenger experience. Inspired by the evolving needs of modern travelers, the system integrates ergonomic aviation principles and mobile user experience into a seamless, multi-screen environment. The design process was deeply informed by extensive user research, accessibility studies, and direct passenger feedback, ensuring the platform meets the diverse expectations of travelers from around the world.
The IFE system operates across 14 different screen types and is compatible with Airbus A350, Boeing 777, and Airbus A321 aircraft. It boasts an industry-leading triple contrast ratio for enhanced accessibility and visual clarity, exceeding current standards. The intuitive "My Journey" feature allows passengers to personalize their travel experience, while a content library of over 10,000 movies, TV shows, podcasts, and shopping options ensures engagement for every passenger. The system's AI-driven recommendations and Watch Together functionality further elevate the onboard experience, allowing synchronized content playback and tailored suggestions.
Developed using a custom interface framework, the system adapts to both modern and legacy hardware, supporting Android 5.0 and later. The design team overcame significant technical challenges to harmonize the user interface across multiple aircraft models and screen sizes, maintaining performance and visual consistency even on older technology. Rigorous usability testing and over 1,000 real-flight trials demonstrated a 35% improvement in content discoverability and a 22% reduction in service wait times. The result is an accessible, efficient, and visually compelling entertainment platform that has set a new industry standard, earning the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2025.
