The newly completed Yamaha Corporation Headquarters in Hamamatsu City, designed by Yuya Kimura and his team, has been honored with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award 2025 for its groundbreaking approach to workplace design, environmental performance, and brand expression, marking a significant milestone in corporate architecture.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yamaha Corporation's new global headquarters, completed in June 2024 in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, stands as a testament to innovative office architecture. Designed by Yuya Kimura and his team, the project consolidates Yamaha's core functions into a compact, city-center facility that fosters collaboration and organizational synergy. The design was inspired by the need to modernize Yamaha's aging headquarters, enhance brand identity, and create a highly efficient, environmentally responsible workplace.
The building's unique network-form design features a prominent overhanging volume at the lower level, seamlessly connecting with the existing structure and facilitating smooth circulation. This architectural approach not only encourages employee interaction but also strengthens communication across Yamaha's global operations. The headquarters is equipped with advanced technologies, including the Yamaha Web Conference System, supporting seamless collaboration between domestic and international offices and plants. The ABW (Activity-Based Working) concept underpins the office layout, offering a variety of workspaces to boost engagement and autonomy among employees.
Environmental sustainability is at the core of the project. The headquarters employs a symmetrical double-skin curtain wall, natural ventilation systems, and biophilic design elements, including a wood-decked upper terrace and extensive plantings. Rigorous research, including wind and shading simulations, informed the building's shape and layout to harmonize with the local environment and ensure comfort and safety. Structurally, the building utilizes a base isolation system and steel construction for seismic resilience, with innovative engineering solutions to maximize openness and continuity. These features, combined with a monochrome interior palette and diverse materials, reflect Yamaha's brand philosophy and commitment to excellence.
The Yamaha Corporation Headquarters has been recognized with the Golden A' Design Award 2025 in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, celebrating its outstanding contribution to the advancement of sustainable, people-centric office environments. This accolade underscores the project's role as a benchmark for future corporate headquarters worldwide.
