hpa Ho and Partners Architects' Jiangangshan Number 1 residential project in Shenzhen, China, has been honored with the Golden A' Design Award 2025 for its pioneering integration of modern living, ecological sustainability, and cultural heritage, redefining urban mountain dwelling through community collaboration and advanced design technology.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jiangangshan Number 1, designed by hpa Ho and Partners Architects, stands as a benchmark for contemporary residential development in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Spanning a total construction area of 394,000 square meters, the project leverages its unique location adjacent to Dajing Mountain Park to create a harmonious blend of urban living and natural landscape. The development comprises a diverse mix of high-rise and multi-storey residences, a kindergarten, commercial streets, and comprehensive supporting facilities, all thoughtfully arranged to maximize mountain views and ecological benefits.
The design philosophy centers on integrating local heritage and communal values, achieved through extensive engagement with both aboriginal residents and prospective homeowners. By conducting surveys, seminars, and collaborative planning sessions, the design team ensured the preservation of cultural memory while reinterpreting traditional settlement aesthetics in a modern context. The site layout features dynamic and static zoning, with residential and public buildings organized into two clusters and terraced according to the natural topography, fostering a tranquil and healthy environment.
Sustainability is at the heart of Jiangangshan Number 1. The project employs BIM technology throughout all design phases, enhancing construction efficiency and quality. Green building principles are embedded in every aspect, from energy-efficient building envelopes and air conditioning systems to ecological water recycling and extensive landscaping. The development prioritizes pedestrian safety and well-being, with separated pathways for vehicles and people, a 700-meter fitness trail, and open landscaped spaces that connect seamlessly with the surrounding parkland. Completed and delivered in 2022, Jiangangshan Number 1 has set a new standard for eco-civic living and has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award for its outstanding contribution to the advancement of architecture and community living.
