Chen Yu Ching's "Frames Of Memory" apartment project in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for its innovative reinterpretation of North American neoclassical aesthetics within a contemporary Asian context, creating a refined and emotionally resonant living space completed in January 2024.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Frames Of Memory" apartment, designed by Chen Yu Ching and Shan Ting Hou of Ching Jhih Interior Design, has captured the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2025. Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and completed in January 2024, the 100-square-meter residence stands out for its thoughtful translation of North American neoclassical charm into a modern Asian home. Drawing inspiration from the client's cherished memories of life in Canada, the design weaves together familiar proportions, comforting textures, and a sense of quiet elegance, resulting in a living space that is both culturally sensitive and deeply personal.
The project's uniqueness lies in its meticulous adaptation of neoclassical elements to suit the humid Taiwanese climate and local lifestyle. A custom 1 to 4 paneling system, constructed with moisture-resistant foam boards and eco-friendly PP materials, ensures durability and low emissions. The design also integrates feng shui principles and practical storage solutions, such as full-height built-in cabinets and a retractable kitchen door, to maintain minimalist elegance while supporting everyday routines. Curved ceiling treatments and layered lighting further enrich the spatial experience, guiding movement and softening the atmosphere with subtle sophistication.
Realized through close client collaboration, iterative modeling, and precise on-site measurements, "Frames Of Memory" demonstrates a harmonious balance between beauty, function, and cultural comfort. The project's research-driven approach included interviews, site studies, and environmental analysis, ensuring that every detail-from material selection to spatial flow-reflects both the client's emotional connections and the technical demands of the local environment. The result is a timeless, award-winning home that celebrates heritage, daily rituals, and the enduring power of thoughtful design.
