Lipa Restaurant: Redefining Fine Dining with Sustainable, Locally Inspired Design in Saudi Arabia

Lipa, located in the Icon Tower of Al Ahsa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stands as a testament to the region's growing appetite for world-class fine dining. Conceived by Moshary Abdullatif Al-Holaibi and a multidisciplinary team, the project was motivated by the desire to introduce a sophisticated culinary destination that both celebrates local heritage and meets international standards. Scheduled for completion in December 2024, Lipa's design philosophy centers on authenticity, sustainability, and immersive guest experiences.

The restaurant's unique character is defined by a striking contrast between raw, industrial materials-such as polished concrete, steel, and stone-and the refined warmth of artisanal woodwork. This interplay of textures and finishes not only creates a visually captivating environment but also evokes a sense of grounded luxury. The design intentionally avoids unnecessary barriers, allowing guests to fully engage with the culinary artistry on display, while a rich, regionally inspired color palette infuses the space with a sense of place and belonging.

Realization of the project prioritizes eco-friendly practices, with a strong emphasis on sourcing local, low-emission materials like real marble, E1 class MDF wood veneers, and resilient fabrics. The collaborative approach between designers, sustainability experts, and local contractors ensured that both environmental and operational goals were met, from efficient MEP integration to streamlined construction methods. The result is a 600 sqm space-350 sqm of which is dedicated to the kitchen-that not only supports modern commercial needs but also reduces its carbon footprint and supports regional industries.

Lipa's innovative approach and commitment to excellence have earned it the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2025. This accolade recognizes the project's outstanding technical and artistic achievements, as well as its positive impact on the local community and the broader field of sustainable commercial design.
