"Thorn Metamorphosis" Animation Showcases Nature-Inspired Design and Technical Innovation

QZENS Furniture - Art - Design has received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award for "Thorn Metamorphosis," a visually striking product animation that reimagines the thorn-a symbol of resilience and growth-as a modern lighting object. Created by a multidisciplinary team led by designer Yılmaz DOĞAN, the project blends organic forms with industrial aesthetics, reflecting the journey of overcoming challenges and finding beauty in adversity. The animation was developed over ten months, spanning creative hubs in New York and Ankara, and was completed in July 2024.

"Thorn Metamorphosis" stands out for its innovative use of advanced visual effects technology. The cinematic was crafted using Houdini and rendered with Redshift on dual RTX 4090 GPUs, with compositing in Nuke and editing in After Effects. The animation's organic transformation is driven by procedural tools and Vellum simulations, while anamorphic CG cameras and realistic lighting techniques enhance its immersive, cinematic quality. The design process was grounded in detailed research, including the study of seasonal changes, natural movement, and material textures, ensuring the animation authentically captures the essence of nature's metamorphosis.

The animation serves as both an origin story and a promotional tool for the Thorn Lighting product, intended for sharing on social platforms and at events to generate excitement and engagement. By merging nature's wild spirit with modern design and technology, "Thorn Metamorphosis" not only celebrates the resilience and beauty found in transformation but also demonstrates QZENS Furniture's commitment to pushing creative and technical boundaries in product storytelling. The Silver A' Design Award recognizes the project's outstanding artistic skill, technical innovation, and emotional impact.
