Gaofuli: Award-Winning Super High-Rise Integrates Classic Shanghai Culture and Modern Innovation

Gaofuli, designed by Schematic Design of Super High-rise Buil for Shanghai Gaofu Real Estate Development Co., Ltd., has received the prestigious Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award for 2025. The project stands as a testament to Shanghai's commitment to urban renewal, skillfully merging the city's rich architectural heritage with the demands of modern urban living. Strategically located near heritage conservation districts and Yanzhong Greenland, Gaofuli establishes a visual connection with a prominent city center landmark, reinforcing its role as a new icon in Shanghai's evolving skyline.

The design draws inspiration from the traditional Shikumen architecture that defines classic Shanghai neighborhoods. By incorporating red and gray bricks, yellow sand, and stone detailing in a modern reinterpretation, the building's facade features copper-toned metals and warm, ceramic-like panels. This material palette creates a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic, while the structure's vertical compositions, polygonal outlines, and softened, chamfered corners pay homage to the city's historic forms. The ground floor is partially elevated, ensuring a cohesive street frontage and safe, accessible entry points that comply with urban safety standards.

With a project area of 46,080 square meters, Gaofuli's layout maximizes natural light and park views by orienting its south and east facades toward Yanzhong Greenland. The design team overcame site constraints by thoughtfully situating the entrance and drop-off area on the north side, enhancing both functionality and urban integration. This award-winning development exemplifies how thoughtful design can balance preservation and innovation, offering a vibrant new space that celebrates Shanghai's cultural identity while embracing the future of sustainable urbanism.
