Zhanjiang Chengfa Runyue Life Lab Center: A New Benchmark for Community-Centric Urban Spaces

Beijing Topace Architecture Design Ltd. has redefined the concept of a sales center with the Zhanjiang Chengfa Runyue Life Lab Center, recently awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2025. Located in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, and completed in October 2024, this 1,391-square-meter project draws inspiration from the region's iconic coastal terraced fields, blending local cultural motifs with contemporary design to foster vibrant, interactive environments for young families.

The Life Lab Center transcends traditional commercial spaces by integrating immersive experiences, social interaction, and lifestyle amenities. Its open-plan layout utilizes obtuse-angled fold lines to maximize natural light and views, while eliminating sharp corners for safety and comfort. The central showcase seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces, uniting a stage, fashion store, and café, all designed to encourage community engagement and flexible use. An exhibition zone offers a tranquil counterpoint to the lively communal areas, highlighting the project's thoughtful spatial sequencing.

Environmental responsibility is at the core of the design, with the use of locally sourced natural materials such as wood and limestone, treated minimally to preserve their authentic textures. Terrazzo flooring with crystallization enhances moisture resistance, and native plants improve air quality, reflecting a commitment to sustainability. The hybrid traffic flow and multifunctional planning dissolve boundaries, supporting diverse lifestyles and redefining the relationship between city, community, and people. This innovative approach not only supports neighborhood development but also sets a new standard for urban culture in Zhanjiang.
