California C House: A Fusion of Minimalist Design and Traditional Courtyard Homes

DOUBLETEAMs presents the California C House, a 381㎡ resort-style inn nestled just a short walk from Joshua Tree National Park. The design, resembling the letter C, draws inspiration from traditional Beijing courtyard homes, offering guests a serene and immersive lodging experience. Constructed using pure wood, the C House allows residents to bask in the outdoor courtyard while admiring the natural surroundings without worrying about sunburn. The interior blends minimalism and elegance, featuring natural materials and soothing color hues that create a fascinating space.

The project posed unique challenges, as the design team sought to blend intricate details into the project, such as installing embedded light strips, which local workers initially resisted due to cost concerns. Despite these challenges, the C House stands as a testament to the successful integration of Chinese design elements into the American hospitality landscape.

Recognized for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design, the California C House was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024, showcasing the project's commitment to excellence and innovation in the hospitality sector.
