Lago Bistro: Ming-Ling Yang's Renovation Project

Award-winning designer Ming-Ling Yang has transformed the century-old San-Ho-Yuan house into the stunning Lago Bistro, located within the grounds of Chung Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The project, which started in March 2020 and finished in August 2020, aimed to renovate the historic site while preserving its essence.

The renovation project preserves the original structure of the old house, maintaining its oriental courtyard essence while introducing modern elements such as a glass facade that creates a sense of transparency and extends the space, reflecting the surrounding greenery.

Lago Bistro integrates the thinking and wisdom of various fields, including industry, government, education, research, and enterprise, to create a space that extends the spiritual essence of the location to each generation.

The San-Ho-Yuan house, a central building with two wings forming a three-section complex, now houses Lago Bistro, featuring a dining area, bar, salon, kitchen, and space for group meetings or dining. The interior design incorporates Nordic high-standard pallets, terracotta floor tiles, and a combination of materials and lighting to create a unique and inviting atmosphere.

Through collaboration with the Department of Architecture, the Department of Landscape, and the Department of Food and Tourism at Chung Hua University, Ming-Ling Yang and her team have successfully revitalized the century-old house, breathing new life into the historic landmark.

The project has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award, highlighting its innovative and practical design that meets professional and industrial requirements. Lago Bistro stands as a testament to the successful integration of natural materials and the preservation of the original structure of the century-old house, creating a truly distinctive restaurant for its community.
