Architect Qi Zhou Unveils the Natatorium of Southeast University

Architect Qi Zhou has unveiled the Natatorium of Southeast University, a cutting-edge sports center that redefines modern architecture. The design draws inspiration from the fluidity of water and the interaction between people and the built environment, creating a dynamic and visually stunning space.

The Natatorium of Southeast University stands out with its unique use of continuous circular arches, breaking the traditional mold of indoor swimming pools and eliminating the sense of alienation often associated with such structures. The building's innovative design and construction techniques set it apart as a modern architectural marvel.

Constructed using cast-in-place concrete and dry-hanging terra-cotta tiles, the Natatorium of Southeast University underwent rigorous performance testing, including mechanical structure tests, material strength tests, daylighting simulations, and acoustic simulations. The project's design and realization were supported by a team of talented architects and engineers, including Chief Architect Qi Zhou and a dedicated design team.

The Natatorium of Southeast University spans a land area of 6892 square meters, with a gross built area of 5650 square meters. The building's impressive dimensions include a height of 10.5 meters, a width of 39 meters, and a length of 91 meters, spanning across two floors above ground and one below.

Featuring a standard-sized swimming pool, the Natatorium provides a state-of-the-art fitness venue for swimming and training, with additional facilities such as a gym and classrooms. The design seamlessly integrates the functional aspects of a natatorium with a visually striking architectural form, creating a space that is both practical and aesthetically captivating.

The Natatorium of Southeast University was designed in 2018, with construction commencing in April 2019 and reaching completion in October 2022. Located on the Jiulonghu Campus of Southeast University in Nanjing, China, this architectural masterpiece represents a culmination of extensive research, innovative design, and technical expertise.

Architect Qi Zhou's visionary approach to the design of the Natatorium of Southeast University has garnered international recognition, earning the project the "best of best" accolade in the AMP Architecture Prize. The design has been celebrated for its exceptional architectural achievements, marking a significant contribution to the field of modern architecture.
