Chen Hsu Interior Design introduces "Merak," a cozy and elegant apartment designed to evoke happiness, featuring a minimalist aesthetic and environmentally friendly materials, completed in December 2022 in Taiwan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chen Hsu Interior Design presents "Merak," a residential project designed to create a relaxed and cozy atmosphere for its occupants. The name "Merak," derived from the Serbian word for happiness, reflects the essence of the space as a box of love, filled with warmth and care. The design satisfies the client's preference for Western feelings, with a red theme creating an elegant taste that matches the client's characteristics.
The 181.8 square meter site, with an actual interior area of approximately 99.1 square meters, features a layout of three rooms, a living room, a dining room, and two bathrooms. The design team removed the entrance wall, creating a small landscape in the kitchen island area and inducing a natural flow of circulation. The dressing room meets the client's storage needs, while considering future possibilities, defining the guest room as a future studio or children's room.
Minimalist volume for visual effect is achieved through the use of black, white, and grey tones, emphasizing the nature of the material and the purity of color. The contrast between the solid and the void is utilized for emotional expression, particularly in the social area, where dark colors and bar style are applied to highlight the red and create a lively social atmosphere.
The project is based on the principle of low saturation, with a focus on environmentally friendly materials. The texture of the materials is preserved in the details, such as steel brush-sawn oak and natural thin mineral stones with rough surfaces and indentations. Hand-painted stucco and architectural concrete coatings express the essence of materials, while reflective gradation of the stucco accentuates every moment of life.
The design team considered the client's lifestyle and installed an electric fireplace below the TV wall, fulfilling the client's preference for a water vapor fireplace that reduces carbon emissions. The spacious living room is designed to accommodate socializing, movie watching, and workouts, creating an elegant and delicate space that makes the clients feel at home.
Chen Hsu Interior Design's "Merak" was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
