FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Xu Wei Art Museum: A Fusion of History and Modernity

The Xu Wei Art Museum, a transformation of the great Chinese painting and calligraphy artist's former residence, harmoniously blends into the 2,500-year-old historical setting of Shaoxing. The museum, designed by LIGHTING DESIGN INSTITUTEof UAD, serves as a cultural and artistic hub, creating a tranquil and elegant night view that integrates with the ancient city and its community.

The museum's unique design features layered expressions of building materials, creating a balance between virtuality and reality, and a sense of depth inspired by Xu Wei's ink wash paintings. The restrained yet precise lighting techniques highlight the night atmosphere and appreciation value of the architecture, creating a poetic ambience that resonates with the historical significance of the location.

The project, completed in April 2021, posed challenges in integrating the museum into the residential area of the ancient city while maintaining a low-key and introverted lighting design. The team overcame these challenges by adopting Building Information Modelling (BIM) and DIALux illumination calculation to ensure the lighting effect met the project's vision.

The Xu Wei Art Museum has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2022, reflecting its outstanding and trendsetting design that embodies extraordinary excellence and significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics.
