Living The Gardens: A Sustainable Villa Development in Cancun, Mexico

sanzpont [arquitectura] introduces Living The Gardens, a sustainable villa development comprising nine villas in a condominium regime, situated on a 2,373 square meter land in Cancun, Mexico. The project aims to promote resource reduction, economic savings, and sustainable housing through passive and bioclimatic design. The villas are designed to be entirely built with local materials, reducing environmental impacts and supporting the local economy. Each villa features a roof garden and offers amenities such as a pool, garden, picnic area, outdoor gym, yoga area, sun deck, and pets area.

The project, which began in 2021, is set to be completed in 2023. It addresses the warm and humid climate of the region by implementing solar protection, natural cross-ventilation, and the use of native vegetation to achieve sustainable and low energy consumption housing. The structural challenge of the project was overcome by designing the rooftop to carry the intermediate slab with columns that work in tension instead of compression, allowing the ground floor roof to hang from the rooftop.
