Fununit Design's The Animal Backbone

Fununit Design introduces The Animal Backbone, a groundbreaking retail store concept located in the heart of Shanghai. Once the first slaughterhouse in the Far East, this historic building has been transformed into a famous cultural and creative industry center. The design pays homage to the countless animal lives lost, aiming to create a commemorative architecture that echoes the painful memories of the past.

The Animal Backbone stands out with its unique approach to space design, integrating the behavior of animals into the urban environment. The project was realized using metal plates, mirrors, and glass, covering an area of 100m2. The design team, led by Eason Zhu and including Case Designer, Alex Lin, Erhuan Chai, Qianlan Lu, and Guanhang Jiang, has successfully created an interactive space that harmoniously caters to both humans and animals.

With a focus on the historical environment and the symbiotic relationship between humans and animals, The Animal Backbone provides a platform for the pidan's brand and ideas. Additionally, the concept promotes stray animal adoption and offers long-term support for stray cats and dogs in the 1933 old field, fostering a harmonious coexistence between the two.

Fununit Design, based in Hangzhou, China, is dedicated to delivering innovative architectural, interior, installation, and product design services. The international design team's approach combines experimental, narrative, and humorous methods to provide a fresh direction for the commercial market. The Animal Backbone has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category, reflecting its outstanding creativity and impact on the industry.
