Inclusive Architectural Practice Expands and Renovates International School of Beijing with Innovative Collage of Art and Music Melodies
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Inclusive Architectural Practice (IAP) has unveiled the transformative expansion and renovation of the International School of Beijing with the innovative "Collage of Melodies." This pioneering architectural endeavor aims to propel the leading K12 school to the forefront of the learning environment, encapsulating diverse learning communities within a dynamic, versatile education architecture.
The design, inspired by image collage and musical melodies, breathes new life into the school's existing framework, creating a harmonious duet of diversified interior spaces and a colorful, wood-clad expansion building. The project, which commenced in May 2017, was completed in September 2020, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of ISB's educational landscape.
The Collage of Melodies project encompasses 5 distinct learning communities, each tailored to different age groups and learning programs. The expansion building, characterized by vertical sunshades composed of natural wood-veneer resin panels and colorful Trespa panels, not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also reduces energy consumption, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
With a site area of 133,333 m2 and a building height of 24 m, the project represents a proactive architectural approach to address the challenges posed by the over-unified, solemn institution building, transforming it into a vibrant, adaptable space that reflects the diversity of students and learning programs critical to curriculum innovation.
IAP's founder and chief designer, Xiaoyi Ma, along with a dedicated team, collaborated closely with educators and students to establish design strategies, ensuring that the Collage of Melodies resonates with the school's ethos and fosters a learner-centered environment. The project's success is underscored by its recognition with the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
