Wei Zhang's Yangfu project is a 3400 square meter private residence, blending traditional culture with modern living in Shaoxing, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wei Zhang's Yangfu project is a testament to the fusion of traditional Chinese culture and modern living. The 3400 square meter private residence in Shaoxing, China, is designed to accommodate a traditional Chinese family with four generations living in a courtyard house. The owner, an elder in his sixties, has longed for a place where nature's charm can be felt, traditional ideas can be inherited, and family affection can be nurtured. The house features reception, display (small private art gallery), and residence functions, allowing the inheritance of culture and wealth.
The design incorporates solid wood, copper bars, marble, and decorative leather wall panels to create large blocks, with small details depicted using traditional hand-made wood carving, stone carving, and metal forging techniques. The house is designed to meet the needs of residents of different ages, offering a private and fusion lifestyle. The corridor connects the entire house, providing relatively independent spaces for reception and residence. The house also includes a private art gallery where the owner's art collections are displayed in a professional exhibition mode for guests to appreciate.
The project began in Hangzhou, China, in December 2017, and was completed in Shaoxing, China, in January 2020. The design technique of "point, line, and surface" is used to inherit and promote the traditional residential culture, creating a comfortable garden to live in. The project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that blends tradition with modernity, contributing to quality of life improvements.
