National Library Board Singapore / Idean introduces a seamless omnichannel experience for library patrons with a newly designed mobile application, merging physical and digital worlds.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
National Library Board Singapore / Idean has unveiled a groundbreaking mobile application aimed at revolutionizing the library experience for the digital age. The app seamlessly merges the physical and digital worlds, offering a consistent brand experience across all channels. With a focus on enhancing the library experience for digital natives, the app aims to bring the romance of physical books into the digital space, providing a quaint place to unleash imaginations.
The app boasts a delightful browsing experience, efficient searching, and the ability to build communities through sharing, along with smart and personalized recommendations. It enhances the physical finding and borrowing experience through AR mapping and low-power beacon technology, aiding users in locating books and seeking assistance within the library.
Utilizing beacon technology, the app delivers personalized messages to users' mobile devices, providing contextual information and content specific to the library branch they are in. It also allows users to track the location and availability of books in real-time, enhancing the efficiency of the borrowing process. Additionally, users can reserve physical books through the app and collect them at any branch, offering a seamless journey when browsing books on the go.
The project, which commenced in May 2019 in Singapore, was completed in September 2019. The design process involved extensive research, including ground research on digital natives' reading habits, user categorization based on engagement levels, and in-depth interviews with library users to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement.
The Future of the Digitally Society Mobile Application has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design in 2020, acknowledging its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness.
