FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Benny Leung, an acclaimed creative director and designer from Hong Kong, has received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication category for his innovative board game, "Client Vs Designers." Developed between October and December 2023 in Hong Kong, the game draws inspiration from the classic Animal Chess, reimagining the adversarial yet foundational relationship between clients and designers as a playful, strategic contest.
"Client Vs Designers" is designed for two players and features transparent acrylic chess pieces, each screen-printed with character illustrations representing key job positions on both sides. The game board itself is crafted from premium paper that mimics the tactile feel of traditional Animal Chess, enhanced with Pantone metallic colors for a visually striking effect. Players select from multiple character illustrations, adding a layer of personalization and strategy before the game even begins.
The concept behind the game is rooted in the idea that every great working relationship often begins with a degree of adversity. By highlighting the frustrations and "traps" each side may encounter, the game encourages empathy and understanding, ultimately illustrating how overcoming challenges can lead to lasting partnerships. The project's unique approach and meticulous design have resonated with both the design community and the A' Design Award jury, who praised its creativity, technical execution, and ability to spark meaningful conversations about collaboration in the creative industry.
Leung collaborated with illustrator Step Cheung to bring the game's characters to life, ensuring each piece reflects the nuances of real-world client-designer interactions. The board game not only offers a fun and engaging experience but also serves as a conversation starter about the importance of communication and mutual respect in creative endeavors. "Client Vs Designers" stands out for its blend of humor, artistry, and insightful commentary, making it a must-have for designers, clients, and anyone interested in the creative process.
