Taichung-based designer CHEN SHIH HAN has been honored with the Silver A' Design Award 2025 for "Study," a six-floor, 496-square-foot project in Taiwan that reimagines the reading environment through layered spatial experiences, blending home-like warmth with functional versatility across each floor.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHEN SHIH HAN's "Study" project, completed in December 2023 in Taiwan, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for 2025. This innovative interior design transforms a six-floor, 496-square-foot business space into a dynamic reading environment, where each level offers a distinct spatial expression while maintaining a cohesive sense of home-like warmth. Inspired by the calming hues of the ocean, the design utilizes soft gray-blue tones and light wood veneers, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
The project's unique approach lies in its ability to infuse each floor with a different ambiance and function, from a children's reading area with a stepped platform on the first floor to a classic American-style study with a fireplace and glass display cases on the second. The mezzanine introduces a Japanese-inspired setting that seamlessly integrates reading, dining, and meeting spaces. Transparent glass elements connect the various levels, fostering visual interaction and a sense of community throughout the building. The design's central concept of "home" ensures that every visitor, whether in a public or private area, experiences comfort and warmth.
"Study" was realized through the repeated use of consistent materials, primarily gray-blue accents and light woods, to establish a visual connection between floors while allowing each space to express its unique character. The design carefully considers natural light, ventilation, and the strategic use of white space to create a relaxed, comfortable environment. Overcoming the challenge of unifying diverse spatial functions, CHEN SHIH HAN and design assistant CHIOU YI-JIUN have crafted a harmonious vertical experience that supports both business needs and personal well-being. The project's recognition by the A' Design Award jury highlights its outstanding creativity, technical excellence, and ability to evoke positive emotions in its users.
