Weave Of Light: Award-Winning Residential House Blending Art, Light, and Inclusive Modern Living

The "Weave Of Light" project, designed by Hui Ting Fan and completed in January 2024 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award for Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design in 2025. This residential house stands out for its unique approach to merging art with advanced lighting, transforming traditional materials like marble into contemporary statements. The design draws inspiration from the interplay of light and shadow, utilizing vertical and horizontal lines with varied materials to blur the boundaries between two- and three-dimensional spaces, creating a dynamic and modern aesthetic.

Spanning three floors of approximately 170 square meters each, the house features an open layout that supports smooth circulation and inclusivity for all generations. The first floor includes a kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, and an accessible room for the elderly. The second floor is dedicated to a master bedroom, audio-visual room, walk-in closet, and bathroom, while the third floor offers two bedrooms, a study, and a bathroom. Key highlights include a living room adorned with Silver Fox marble in geometric shapes accented by metal, a dome ceiling in the dining area with reflective wood veneer, and a master bedroom featuring wavy walls and strategic lighting for a welcoming ambiance.

Innovative features such as integrated storage, barrier-free elements for the elderly, and the use of organic patterns and metallic finishes turn walls into unique art pieces. The open concept kitchen is equipped with sliding glass doors and accordion curtains to manage cooking fumes and maintain clarity. The media room's hand-dyed wood veneer wallpaper with metallic lines, and a skylight in the communal bathroom, further enhance the interplay of natural and artificial light. The design's research-driven approach, combining aesthetic evaluation with ergonomic analysis, ensures that the space meets the needs of all age groups while maintaining a cohesive, artistic environment. "Weave Of Light" exemplifies how thoughtful design can blend functionality, sustainability, and artistic expression to create a truly inclusive home.
