Jun Ting Chen's "Ink and Ivory Harmony," a 73-square-meter residence in New Taipei City, Taiwan, has been honored with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025 for its innovative interior inspired by the game of Go, blending flexible living spaces with modern aesthetics and thoughtful feng shui solutions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
"Ink and Ivory Harmony" by Jun Ting Chen reimagines residential living through the lens of Go, the ancient board game renowned for its strategic depth and symbolic black-and-white aesthetic. Completed in October 2024 in New Taipei City, Taiwan, the 73-square-meter residence was designed to adapt to both present and future needs, accommodating the sole occupant today while anticipating the possibility of partners or family members in the future. The project's flexible layout transforms the original four-bedroom plan into three more spacious rooms, merging the gaming and collection areas, as well as combining the worship and multifunctional rooms, to maximize utility and comfort.
The design draws heavily from the visual language of Go, with the interplay of points, lines, and surfaces reflected in the home's layout and the dominant monochrome palette. A striking curved chandelier above the central island acts as a symbolic centerpiece, representing the aspiration to become a "dragon" in Go-a metaphor for success and growth. The master bedroom features a sophisticated blend of dark hues and wood grain, creating a serene and stable retreat, while the foyer utilizes skeleton structures and rainbow glass to address feng shui concerns, enhancing openness and flow upon entry.
Innovative lighting solutions further set this residence apart. In the combined gaming and collection room, RGB lighting establishes a magical ambiance, while recessed natural light fixtures in display cabinets highlight the vibrant colors of collectible figurines, turning them into dynamic wall art. The thoughtful integration of mirrors and materials throughout the home expands the sense of space and depth, demonstrating Jun Ting Chen's commitment to both aesthetic excellence and functional living. Recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award 2025, "Ink and Ivory Harmony" exemplifies creative ingenuity and a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity.
