Qu Space Design's "Dwelling S" stands as a testament to the evolving definition of home, seamlessly blending the comfort of a boutique hotel with the warmth and personality of a private residence. Located in Taiwan and completed in August 2023, the project unites two residential units into a single, expansive 578.5-square-meter living space. The owner, an avid traveler, sought a sanctuary that would reflect a high standard of living while showcasing personal collections and taste. The result is a home that is not only visually stunning but also deeply functional, offering a harmonious balance between social interaction and private retreat.
At the heart of "Dwelling S" is an open-plan kitchen island dining area, designed as the central hub for gatherings. The suspended dining table, crafted from a blend of stone and wood, eliminates traditional chair legs for a sleek, modern look that is both safe for children and visually striking. Adjacent to this area, a fully transparent wine cellar with a stone-like exterior serves as both a display and a private sanctuary for the owner's wine collection, embodying understated luxury. The use of large slab tiles, marble-textured stone, and black Venetian paint with a metallic shimmer creates an atmosphere of sophistication, with the interplay of light and materials defining each zone within the home.
Functionality is woven throughout the design, with careful zoning separating social and private spaces to accommodate the needs of both adults and children. The layout includes four bedrooms, a living room, dining area, audio-visual room, gym, reading room, and a children's playroom. Challenges such as maximizing storage and reconfiguring bathroom layouts to allow bathtubs to face windows were met with innovative solutions, ensuring both practicality and aesthetic appeal. Positive feedback from the occupants highlights enhanced comfort, tranquility, and flexibility, reinforcing "Dwelling S" as a model for modern luxury living. The project's recognition with the Bronze A' Design Award underscores its contribution to quality of life and its exemplary integration of art, science, and technology in residential design.
